Wow, I must be lonely.......I was this close to buying lord of the rings online last night.

i'm at whole foods right now, it's the only place i know of that has both power and internet. in fact it's the only place i know that you can get ice and groceries without the 5 hour line. much props to whole foods on that. respect.
my neighborhood got completely fucked...i'd say it was one of the worst hit, but just about the whole city got it as bad. we actually got it worse than new orleans for once. the estimates on when the power will come back on vary wildly from 4 days to 4 weeks.
it is hot.
it is hot.
it is hot.
i've had to sleep naked for the entire week with all the windows open. we have a curfew at night so i return to the dark house, light a few candles, and read until i don't feel like it anymore. Days are spent roaming around looking for things to do. i have a nice D&D campaign going right now.
the best part of my day today was realizing that i had saved 2 6-packs of abita strawberry ale with the intention of drinking them when i would need/want them most sometime this summer, and dammit, i can't think of a better time right now.
good luck, everyone

So M.Doughty is doing a Broadway musical starring Scarlett Johanneson based on his first album? That may be the one musical besides Spamalot or The Producers that I'd actually shell out serious green for.
I watched Southland Tales again to see how I felt about it after the second time. I came away just as entertained, I even felt like I understood where Richard Kelly was coming from even more. He sure hates both sides of the coin with almost an equal passion. Terrible movie? Yes. Terribly good? Absolutely. Do movie critics suck the fat one? I wouldn't doubt it.
We saw shadows of the morning light shadows of the evening sun till the shadows and the light were one.

inspired by a post by dontneedtosayit and a lot of boredom, i decided to compile a list of songs that really get to me. they take a molten-hot stake and stab it into my chest in the way only great songs can.
the cure - letter to elise the eels - p.s. you rock my world michael knott - double simon & garfunkle - sounds of silence jeff buckley - hallelujah jimi hendrix - little wing nine inch nails - something i can never have anything slow by billie holliday anything slow by otis redding cat power live (half because of embarassment) the johnny cash cover of hurt + video = *slit* red hot chili peppers - road tripping acid bath - dead girl (shut up, i'm from southern louisiana) pedro the lion - bad diary days (how can i forget) almost anything from joni mitchell see above for cat stevens see above for nick drake sunny day real estate - how it feels to be something on pavement - range life elliot smith - needle in the hay (classic wrist-slitter) bonnie prince billy - i see a darkness radiohead - true love waits much of nick cave's stuff THE SWANS (plus michael gira's solo stuff with angels of light) portishead and massive attack beatles - eleanor rigby circle takes the square - kill the switch most things by low, slowdive, red house painters, sun kil moon etc. fiona apple - sullen girl beck - almost anything off sea change neutral milk hotel - oh comely the band - long black veil rolling stones - wild horses
and also, this isn't a song, but that episode of futurama where fry's dog waits outside the pizza shop for years until he finally dies.

fuck the facts - taken from the nest |

well i thought this would be a typical "life-shitting-on-me" post, but most of it is deserved.
i'm currently living with my parents until anything comes along....anything.
my elbow feels like it's about to rot off. i think i have staff. it's all i can think about so i think this is day number 3 or 4 with no real sleep.
on the up note, i have off of work (the chimes) all this weekend and next weekend. i have a beautiful and slightly crazy girlfriend from wisconsin (liz).
that's the short rundown on my life at the moment.
ps: so who's up for some sort of crazy psychadelic weekend?
pps: animosity is playing the 29th with evan (the bassist) from reflux. misery index, strong intention, fuck the facts, and kill the client are playing october 15th. this makes me a VERY happy person.

perks party = good people, free amber, and the resulting clusterfuck of old scensters dancing in the middle of the coffee shop.

I miss all of you guys that I haven't seen in a while. Come hang out with me sometime while summer is still slow and sluggardly. Call up Reba if you want to get in touch with me. I have plans to make the rest of this season as laid back as possible while I get back on my feet. Of course, to me, laid back means a lot of fungal activity. Ahh, the miracle of cow shit.
I've got one more silver dollar but I aint gonna let them catch me now aint gonna let them catch the midnight rider

so we have until friday at the 2161 oleander house. feel free to come over and celebrate our eviction. dane and louis moved out yesterday so me and lani aren't giving much of a fuck about anything.
it's such crap to be back in baton rouge after 5 days of manchester tennessee, especially since everyone still seems to be gone. who's still in town hanging out? we have to get together and raise some hell.
bonnaroo was amazing of course. even though i hardly prepared, had barely enough money, and lost all my acid there was no way to have a bad time there. i got fed by my neighbors every day and stayed in a huge tent (thanks jessie and kate). i got to see
devotchka - i dont know how good these guys were because i was coming up on a powerful mushroom chocolate and anything would have been interesting. toubab krewe - the surprise of the trip..these guys were the tightest jam band i saw andrew bird - great, rolling my dick off. oh yeah, andrew bird is a huuuuuuuuuge fag. ben folds - great, but because of previous molly ingestion, i nearly passed out devendra banhart - devendra with a full band surrounded by a bunch of hippies. perfect g love and special sauce - i love this band, but at this time i was starting to get overheated and dehydrated so i had to go back to the camp. this is how i missed tom fucking petty and my morning jacket :( neville brothers - from the tent damian marley - on the way to the stage beck - i enjoyed the fuck out of beck but i dont think the girls did....too bad. we rushed the stage and camped out for radiohead. radiohead - close to the stage, tripping hard on mushrooms, fighting to keep my knees from giving out, ORGASMIC. the new album is going to be incredible dr. john/rebirth/ivan neville - this was a great show to go to after the intensity of radiohead. it was so fun to watch people from all over the world getting into the new orleans spirit. the night tripper knows how to work an audience. lucero - i saw them at like 2 AM, and they were drunk off their asses, but that's the way i like lucero. it was just the right thing to see in my state of inebriation. bones, liquidrone, and the bingo club - it was nice to go to the preservation hall tent when i was all cracked out and homesick. i would grab a little shade and watch all the freaky b.r. and new orleans bands do their thing. stephen malkmus and the jicks - the girls didn't want to go to this or sonic youth so i was left to myself, it's a shame because they were two of the best shows i saw all bonnaroo. pavement for life. sonic youth - amazing. so much better than when i saw them at voodoo, probably because i was like four rows back right in front of thurston. the bass player from pavement played with them for this show so they had two basses going on a lot of the songs. stephen malkmus came out for the encore. *le sigh* what a good time
